Water is such a great source of inspiration for im Water is such a great source of inspiration for imagery when teaching movement. πŸŒŠβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
πŸ’§Imagine water moving pouring down the back of the spine soft to soften overworked muscles πŸŒŠβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
πŸ’§Imagine water dripping off your fingertips- to release tension in the hands and arms
πŸ’§Imagine your spine like a geyser , upward energy moving up the spine and out the top of the headπŸŒŠβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
Get creative and see how many ways you can bring the image of water into your next session.
Got any water images you’d like to share?
β€œThe nervous system gives us the ability to acqu β€œThe nervous system gives us the ability to acquire and retain knowledge, to disseminate and transmit knowledge from a blend of past and new experiences, and to develop the wisdom to accept only that which best serves our purpose. Fortunately, there resides within the nervous system a good deal of innate wisdom which automatically chooses, the neuromuscular pathways best suited to reach a given goal in movement. It is particularly important that this wisdom be trusted and affirmed in the teaching of movement.” From β€œHuman Movement Potential” by Lulu Sweigard. πŸŒΈβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
I’ve been rereading β€œHuman Movement Potential” in preparation for my upcoming imagery course for the PMA. It’s such a great resource for both biomechanics and imagery. The almost 50 year old treatise for imagery and alignment , although dated in its language, πŸ˜‚ is still highly relevant. πŸ“–

✨Slings are made up of muscle, fascia and ligaments that work in concert to transfer force through the bodyβœ¨β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
✨The activation of the lateral sling provides the necessary support in the frontal plane for functional activities like walking or climbing stairsβœ¨β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
✨We’ll be looking at all 4 slings in my movement principles course on June 4th and 5th.

A full day of teaching Pilates , Yoga or really any movement practice takes sustained concentration and creatively. How do you keep yourself centered and able to give your last client as much as your first. πŸ™β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹
This is one of the many challenges we will discuss in my MOVEMENT PRINCIPLES course in June.

Sure it’s great to say” ears over shoulders , Sure it’s great to say” ears over shoulders , ribcage over pelvis, pelvis over ankles”, these basic cues can be really helpful. But how do you help people digest it, and feel it from the inside, so to speak? I’ve been playing with β€œ roof of the mouth - over the pelvic floor”. It’s not for everyone , but it does guide clients into a more visceral and hopefully embodied experience. 🦢 πŸ¦ΆπŸ¦Άβ€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

Try imagining a little bucket of water πŸͺ£ on the spine of your scapula (that is the horizontal edge the protrudes a bit like a spine). And when the arm moves out to side and up over head ( upward rotation) ‴️ see the bucket tip and pour warm water down the inside edge . β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
