Better late than never! Welcome Jess R. to our Pilates family at Mongoose Bodyworks. She has been teaching with us since August 2022! Jess’ dedication to the work and helping clients reach their goals is inspiring. So happy to have her on board.

I really enjoy working with clients with scoliosis

I really enjoy working with clients with scoliosis. It’s so rewarding to be able to help clients get out and stay out of pain!
Next week I am hosting a staff only workshop on scoliosis. This will be the first time we have all been in the same room in three years! OMG ! THREE YEARS. Some instructors will be meeting for the first time. I’ll be reviewing assessment techniques, exercises on the Wanda Chair, Cadillac and Reformer. We are going to have so much fun.

What is the myo-fascial midline? 🤔
It’s a way of embodying your midline thru the core muscles that lie close to your imaginary midline. 🌳
Using imagery to deepen your proprioception can facilitate the experience of the midline as something dynamic and fluid. 🌀
In my upcoming workshop at the PMA I’ll be teaching teachniques to tap into your kinesthetic sense of your myofascial core . “Imagery Comes Alive:Ideokinesis “.

This picture illustrates the movement of the sacrum. 😳When one is moving into sacral nutation the tail is moving away from the sitbones and the top of the sacrum ( also called the base) is moving forward - top picture. 😮
As movement educators we want to make sure our fellow sacrums are not getting stuck. Even though this is a micro movement it is an important movement that relates to the stability of the pelvis as a whole and the motion at the hip sockets. 😲
Because this movement is small and subtle - it is a great candidate for imagery. Imagery speaks to your subconscious mind, eliciting micro movements or muscular releases that allow the body to move naturally and with ease. 🙀
Try this:
Lye on your back in constructive rest ( knees bent)
Feel the weight of the sacrum as it makes contact with the earth. then imagine you have a long tail like a cat. And this tail is currently curled up towards your belly button. Without trying to create any visible movement allow the tail to uncurl and lay on the floor between your feet. See the image a few times , focusing on the movement of the image not the movement of your body. 🐈
This image can help release tight muscles around the sacrum and allow it to nutate.🤯
Imagery takes time. Don't force it. The results blossom over time.

This drawing depicts the gluteus maximus with dotted lines and the deep six rotators with unbroken lines. 💗
I love the visual reminder of how all of these muscles cover the back of the hip joint and how any one of them can influence the movement of the head of the femur.❣️

Ahhh the piriformis, a powerful and pesky muscle.

Ahhh the piriformis, a powerful and pesky muscle. 🔥
We know the pirifomis as an external rotator of the hip.
But its anterior attachment to the sacrum can also influence the movement and position of this important keystone. Tension in this muscle can adversely affect the hip joint and prevent it from moving deep into the socket. ☄️
Takeaway: keep this muscle supple... stretch, strengthen and guide it through its fall range of motion.😍
